The first winch was recorded in 480BC and over the last 2500 years, these amazing mechanical devices have been utilised in almost every aspect of modern life and have fascinated me since childhood.

From an early age climbing trees, I discovered that life could be made considerably easier if I stopped and put a bit of thought into it.  So, when building treehouse’s in the family yard, I used winches to make it easier to climb and then to bring up all of my tools and materials to build my treehouse.

A few years later, my love of winches helped me to replace the engine in my 1st pickup truck and introduced me to a whole new world of mud holing.  I have been through several truck winches since I started, as well as several trucks!

Trucks became a real passion for me and hoists, lifts and winches became an everyday part of my life as I tinkered in the garage on my projects and then qualified as a mechanic and opened my shop.

My workshop is my day life, but this blog is my evenings.  An opportunity for me to help others find the joy of winches that I discovered as a child and also, find the right tool to make their life easier and get the job done quicker.

So the aim of this blog is to talk about some of the tools that I use now and have used over the years, so you can learn from my mistakes, learn what works and what does not and find some tips and tricks to perform a variety of tasks at home, in your garage or workshop.

I love feedback and I am always very interested to hear what works for others or their experiences with various brands, tools and products.  Please feel free to contact me and let me know if there are any topics you would like covered or help with, I would love to hear from you.
